The 2011 EMA Workshop / Conference will be held in Houston, Texas this year in a downtown facility that will put us close to the Theatre District, numerous restaurants, Hermann Park and the Houston Zoo, and many sports arenas. The hotel is conveniently located to the Metro Light Rail for easy access to many of these facilities.


Rooms have been reserved at the Crowne Plaza Downtown at a special rate of $139 US per night, plus applicable taxes and fees. This rate includes a Temper-Pedic mattress, complimentary high-speed internet in each room, a state of the art fitness center, and complimentary shuttle transportation throughout the downtown area. There is an airport Shuttle Service from both Hobby Airport and Houston Intercontinental for a nominal fee.

 

The subject for the Conference this year is “Expediting – The Art of managing Balance”. The topics to be covered by our speakers include “Balancing Schedule and Quality”, “Using Scheduling Software”, “Making PO’s Expediting Friendly”, and “Critical Vendor Data Requirements”. A shop tour is being planned and there are additional speaker topics that have not yet been finalized.


In conjunction with the conference, we are offering our Basic Expediting Training course on Friday before the conference and our Advanced Expediting Training course on Saturday. Successful completion of these two courses and examinations, along with submission of a Work Verification Form certifying at least two years of service in the field of expediting, will result in the award of an EMA designation of “Certified Expediter” (fee for certification applies to non-members). Social events planned include a Saturday evening “Get Acquainted” reception, a trip to the Texas Renaissance Festival in Plantersville, TX, and the awards banquet on Tuesday evening. These activities are all included in the full conference rate and the Spouse/Guest Fee.
